Plasma v LCD: What You Should Know

Plasma and LCD displays each have advantages and disadvantages.

Plasma: Plasma displays continue to offer the largest screen sizes available, in particular 50" and above. At this time they offer a higher contrast ratio and less artifacting/image problems in displaying fast motion than LCDs.

LCD: As compared to Plasma displays, LCDs do not run as hot, are typically lighter, won't buzz at high altitudes, and do not suffer from image burn-in (for example if the ESPN or CNBC ticker is displayed all day, the image won't burn into the screen).

At present LCD displays over 30" continue to cost more than Plasma displays (but this will likely change in the future). Both types of displays have an expected life span of 30,000 hours.
